Tori Spelling may be a bestselling author, actress and reality star, but now she’s setting her sights on becoming a talk show host.

The married mom wet her appetite for chatting last month as a co-host on the Today Show.

What advice did Kathie Lee Gifford give her?

“Oh my gosh, she just said ‘be yourself, go for it,’” Tori, 36, tells me during a Q-Tips Vanity Packs event. “That was her thing. Don’t hold back. I remember the first day, I was a little nervous, and I thought ‘OK, it’s Kathie Lee, she’s like an icon, she’s been doing this forever, I have to be so respectful.’ And then she was busting my balls, and I thought ‘oh, I can’t fire back.’ Then, we went to lunch that day and we completely bonded. We had the total two-hour girlfriend lunch, and the next day I came back firing at her. I just felt like I could do that. We were on the same level. And we had bonded – we were girlfriends. It’s so nice to have that compatibility, and we just totally clicked.”

The Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood star hopes to return.

“I would like to, if they would have me back,” she says. “I definitely like the format of the talk show, so I’d definitely love to do something like that in the future.”

Retailing at $24-$88, some items are priced modestly enough to be affordable for people who live outside of Mommywood.

After making its first public debut at the ENK Children’s Show in March, the Little Maven’s boys’ collection was awarded “Best in Show for Newcomers” by the James Girone’s Online Guide to the Children’s Marketplace. It was recently featured in Baby Couture Magazine’s August Special Anniversary issue. A photo of Tori, Dean, and the kids decorated the cover and clothing from the line was pictured throughout the magazine. When asked about the inspiration for Little Maven, obviously Tori cited her own children, “… as a mom of two, the next step I wanted to take was baby and children’s clothing.” Her children, Liam and Stella, each have a grouping named after them in the Fall collection. The additional 4 other groupings include Bohemian Chic and Avalon for girls and Va Vroom and Old Chums for boys.

So if you’ve been hearing about Little Maven on Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood, and are dying to get your little fashionistas in some new designer gear, wait no more. The onslaught of children who dress nicer than most adults has just added another layer, and it’s a cardigan with a designer label.

We chatted with Tori Spelling at Macy’s Herald Square in NYC—she was there to help celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal kick off a program to teach women how to use Q-tips to avoid makeup meltdowns. With Spelling’s years in showbiz, we figured she knows her way around a makeup bag. Here’s what she shared:

Allure: It’s hot and rainy outside, and your makeup still looks great. What is your summer-proof makeup secret?

TS: During the summer, you have to rethink your regime. I don’t usually wear foundation in the summer. I wear concealer under my eyes, especially if I’m tired from being up all night with the kids. Clé de Peau is my favorite, it’s the one thing I’ll splurge on. And I wear tinted moisturizer.

Allure: When you’re not with a makeup artist, what tricks do you use?

TS: I was the girl with a gazillion and one makeup brushes, but after being in so many shoots and doing so many things over the years, you learn amazing tricks—especially with Q-tips. I learned how to smoke my eyes out with them.

Allure: If you’re in a hurry and can only apply one product to your face, what is it?

TS: Mascara. First, I curl my lashes, which I think makes a huge difference. Then I throw on a waterproof mascara and go. I’ve tried every single one, and I love Maybelline mascaras.
